What makes a noteworthy celebrity cook book? In our opinion it's an  authentic visual experience—one that truly reflects the author's personality and intent.

One of the great pleasures of this project was being able to channel Jessica's concept of breaking down cooking basics to make them 100% accessible to everyone. The clean, playful openers, featuring John Kernick's photography and Merideth Harte's illustration, really define the rhythm and tenor of the whole project. Good, clean fun!

Amy Harte acted as Art Director, collaborating with author Jessica Seinfeld, photographer John Kernick and prop stylist Pam Morris to create the photographic compositions for The Can't Cook Book.

Central to the concept of Jessica's book is breaking down the basic "how-to" actions that most experienced chefs take for granted. For those less enamored of the kitchen, having to chop an onion or a clove garlic can be a deal breaker. 3&Co. worked closely with Jessica to distill these basics into the most digestible terms and actions, developing the language and layout for these pages that educate in a playful way.

When Jessica Seinfeld decided to add a video component to her book, 3&Co. introduced her team to a technology that allowed them to side-step QR coding in favor of watermarking. As a result, readers can access Jessica's online "how-to" videos via their smart phones without having to wade through any QR clutter.

3&Co.'s solution for the handful of recipes in The Can't Cook Book that were a little too long to fit on one page, or warranted more photographic real estate?—colorful gatefolds with a message from Jessica. Bright, bold and smart, they give an extra lift to an already luxurious visual experience.

The "Quickies" section at the end of Jessica's book is a masterpiece of recipe writing. These are simple, beautiful meals that really satisfy the senses. Our approach was to match that level of elegance in the design, keeping it simple, clean and approachable.
